“Well, my name is Anubis and I'm a spirit of the Underworld...”
―Anubis answering Elaine's question, from Dog Bites Mummy.

Anubis is the god of the afterlife and a member of the Trackers of Souls.

History[]

Pack to the Future[]

Anubis is summoned by Scarab, alongside the rest of the Trackers of Souls, in order to find and capture Presley Carnovan, and bring him to him. Anubis and the Trackers of Souls locate Presley in Yosemite, where he is camping with his mother. Anubis attempts to capture Presley, but Khati interferes, saving his life, allowing him to escape. Anubis and the Trackers chase after the boy, but then he and his group engage in a fight with the Mummies, who were notified by Khati's amulet. Anubis engages in a sword-fight with Rath, eventually losing the fight and returns back through the Western Gate.

Dog Bites Mummy[]

Anubis and Set return, to take their revenge on the Mummies for defeating them. During a battle between the Mummies and Scarab, they make their appearance, attempting to stop the Mummies. The Mummies manage to defeat them, before escaping. Anubis and Set start looking for them, but they are being lured away from the Sphinx by the Mummies, who use dog biscuits to grab their attention. Anubis and Set then come across Elaine while looking for Presley and capture her to lure the Mummies to them. The Mummies arrive at a stadium, where Elaine is held hostage. Anubis fights the Mummies, being defeated once again. During the end of the episode, the Mummies throw Set and Anubis off the Golden Gate Bridge, and into the Western Gate.

The Face in the Mirror[]

Anubis and Set return once more, on the day of an alignment of the planets, which only takes place once every 3500 years. They start looking for a magic mirror containing a powerful creature called The Eye Of Darkness. Set and Anubis discover the mirror inside a sunken ship, and take the mirror to a mountain top. The Eye seeks a soul of a Pharaoh so it can exchange itself with that spirit to free itself from the mirror. The Eye finds and uses Presley as a new body for him, taking over his mind and stealing the Skycophagus to arrive at the mountain top, where Anubis and Set will perform a ritual to switch their bodies. The Mummies arrive just in time to stop the ritual, which causes a fight between them, Anubis and Set. The Mummies defeat them, and the enraged Eye grabs Set and Anubis inside the mirror, breaking it in the process.

Family Feud: Part 1 - Brother's Keeper[]

Anubis and Set make their final return in this episode, after being tasked by Scarab to locate the mummy and sarcophagus of his loyal follower Arakh. The group locates the sarcophagus in the museum, but the Mummies are there to stop them from taking the sarcophagus. They engage in a fight, but then retreat, being able to steal only Arakh's mummy. Anubis and Set return to Scarab, and Scarab scolds them for not bringing Arakh's sarcophagus. Set, Anubis and Scarab then revive Arakh, and the group is tasked once again by Scarab to bring Arakh's sarcophagus. During another fight in the museum with the Mummies, Anubis manages to strike Ja-Kal with a beam from his sceptre, hitting him. Anubis and Set get interrupted by the rest of the Mummies. Anubis uses his sceptre to make inanimate objects like swords and spears to fly towards the mummies, which they manage to block. In the end, Anubis returns back through the Western Gate, after Set crashes on him, in the middle of firing a beam from his staff. It's unknown what happened to them afterwards.

Personality[]

Anubis is shown to be somewhat playful and naive, in comparison to his associate, Set. Anubis is loyal to Set and tries to imitate him in order to appear more threatning. Anubis is also a cunning warrior. However, he is also very clumsy, leading to him and the people around him (mostly Set) to get hurt in some way.

Powers and Abilities[]

Anubis has great knowledge of magic and spells, using it against his foes. His primary weapon is his staff, which has multiple functions. Anubis is also able to manifest to arm blades, showing that he's also somewhat capable with hand to hand combat. Being a member of the Trackers of souls, Anubis has an excellent sense of smell, being able to track someone's scent, miles away.

Trivia[]

  • Anubis in ancient egypt

Anubis as seen in ancient Egyptian illustrations.

Unlike his ancient Egyptian mythology counterpart, Anubis is portrayed as a comic-relief type of character.
  • In the show, there's a running gag of Anubis getting physically hurt, in a typical "slapstick" fashion.
  • Set and Anubis are the only reoccuring villains to have appeared in more than three episodes (Excluding ScarabHeka and Ammut).
  • In ancient Egyptian mythos Anubis was the son of Set, and they were portrayed as enemies, not friends.
  • Anubis in ancient Egypt was also the god of death, mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld.
