“Fool! I'm the only one around here with nine lives!”
― Bastet before attacking Rath, from Paws.

Bastet is a Cat Goddess of ancient Egypt and the patron goddess of Nefertina.

History[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Bastet's past. In the show, she was referred to as one of the most revered Ancient Egyptian gods, by Amanda Carnovan. We do know she created the armor of Nefertina, being her patron goddess.

Paws[]

In the episode, Nefertina visits the Bastet exhibit in the museum, where Amanda is giving a tour. She examines a statue of her, admiring her patron goddess, when an amulet from the statue fires a beam at Nefertina. Nefertina starts displaying cat-like traits and eventually transforms into a mummy-cat hybrid. Bastet summons her and other cats from all over San Francisco, and even wild cats like lions and tigers from the San Francisco Zoo. After she gathers every feline in a park, she manifests out of thin air, wondering where all her worshipers and monuments are. She demands to see the pharaoh who rules the unbelievers, and Nefertina (under Bastet's control) reveals to her she knows the reincarnated Prince Rapses and that she will take her to him. Bastet demands that being a goddess, she will not be taken to anyone, and that Nefertina should bring Rapses to her instead. Nefertina hesitates, thinking that fighting the other guardians won't be an easy task, and Bastet gives her some of her magic, to aid her in battle. Eventually Nefertina brings Presley to her, and Bastet scolds him for ruleing unbelievers. While the Mummies try to figure out a way to stop Bastet, save Presley and turn Nefertina back to normal, Presley tries to sneak out of the park, but Bastet stops him from doing so. Bastet decides that if she destroyes the current pharaoh, maybe the people of San Francisco will start worshipping her. The Mummies arrive at the park but engage in a fight between themselves, instead of going after Bastet. Bastet hands over a staff to Nefertina, and says that one touch from the staff will cause the pharaoh to go up in flames. Presley tries to remind Nefertina of who she really is and throws a tuna sandwich to grab her attention away from him. Nefertina and Bastet fight over the sandwich, but in the meantime, the Mummies try to stop Bastet, by destroying the same amulet found on her statue. After destroying the amulet, Bastet is sent back throught the Western Gate, and Nefertina turns back to normal.

Personality[]

Bastet was described as initially being a revered goddess. We know she used to be good, not only because people admired her, but also because she helped create the Amulets of Ra, being Nefertina's patron goddess. However after all these years something changed in her. In the episode she is furious over the lack of worshippers, and threatens to kill the pharaoh, to regain her followers. Therefore, we can assume Bastet is desperate for attention, and will stop at nothing to be worshipped.

Powers and Abilities[]

Bastet knows a variety of spells. Her most used one is summoning all kinds of felines, to use as minions and/or protect her. Bastet was able to turn Nefertina into a cat-mummy hybrid, to follow her command. Bastet can also teleport, throw fireballs, magic beams and even emmit a sleeping powder from her mouth. Finally, she is shown to be able to transfer her magic to another person.
